Riser Pull-in Trolley

On the 13th of January 2010 IHC Fabrication delivered a brand new Riser pull-in Trolley to our sister company IHC Offshore Systems. Due to our great experience in welding and construction IHC Fabrication was chosen to assemble the trolley.

IHC Fabrication Quality

The Riser Pull-in Trolley is a quite complicated structure of welded profiles with a total weight of 66 metric tons. Offshore Systems designed and engineered this trolley for heavy duty. The end customer Modec required a “lifetime” guarantee of 20 years and the usual offshore quality specifications.

Engineering did a solid job in preparing this complex order by ordering classified materials and choosing the best method of construction. Due to offshore quality specs all materials had to have a traceability report and every weld had to be ultrasonic-tested.

Part of the construction and welding of the trolley frame was done in Goes at IHC Fundex. Advised by the specialists of IHC Fabrication, IHC Fundex delivered a perfect frame that could be machined immediately on the Dörries in Kinderdijk. The final assembly was done in two weeks time.

Fabrication: adviser for technical solutions

Putting a design into practice is a tough job. Specialists of the Project Office of IHC Fabrication were consulted to make this order a success. Although the engineers made a perfect design, assembly is a different discipline.

Engineering suggested several modifications to make a perfect trolley. The final control of the construction and welding of the frame resulted in a nearly perfect construction. Problems that occurred with the forging and construction of the main sheave were solved with the help of a welding and material specialist of IHC Fabrication.

Eventually Modec payed IHC Fabrication a compliment with the way we managed the changes in the construction sequences due to the non-fitting sheave house and late delivery of the main sheave.
